#METOO INDIA : A feminist outburst in the last quarter of 2018.

The #METOO movement began in the U.S a year ago, influential women from Hollywood and various other fields started to come out in public. They even used award function podiums and their social media handles to expose their stories of sexual harassment and create awareness.

The movement slowly started to make a global impact and it hit India like a storm, especially the Hindi Film Industry. Bollywood as an industry is more than 100 years old and has a reputation for being male driven. But, times have changed now. It's the era of women empowerment, gender neutrality and equal rights.

So how did the #MeToo movement gain such raging public response in almost a month's time in INDIA??

Former Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta came back to India in Sept, 2018 after her long stay in the U.S. Soon after her arrival, she accused famous veteran actor Nana Patekar of inappropriate behaviour on the sets of a film they were shooting in 2008.

Tanushree Dutta speaks up after 10 years. The time doesn't matter, the trauma is permanent.

Ever since then, the concerned HASHTAG has become a rallying cry against sexual harassment, with multiple women from various walks of life coming out with their #METOO stories.

This outrage is what we need in our country. Sexual Harassment is not a matter of ignorance and the victims whether women or men have the right to speak up freely and speak up loud. It's high time that the women in this country her heard and people get to know the harsh reality. As long as certain people don't use it as a cheap publicity stunt. Otherwise, the #METOO is a powerful step towards the necessary change.

Women need to gather more courage to address such traumas and men should equally understand the meaning of CONSENT. Only then, not just Bollywood but any other professional or personal environment can be called "SAFE" for the women in India and the rest of the world.
